If you’re wondering where you can find honey-glazed toasts in Singapore, check out this new cafe at Dhoby Ghaut’s Singapore Shopping Centre.
9Toast, the first of its kind, offers three kinds of toasts, alongside an array of Japanese and Korean-inspired drinks.
As sweet as it sounds, the toasts actually ended up very balanced. They were not too sweet, even though it was smeared with honey butter and served with different kinds of fillings and sauces. A pretty good treat for the afternoon, and personally I felt like the prices were reasonable.
What to eat at 9Toast?
So if you’re wondering which of their honey-glazed toasts to try, we tried all three of them and here’s what we recommend.
The Original ($8.5) featured strawberries with a sticky mochi filling. If you want something light, go for this.
Alternatively, the Purple Haze ($8.5) is topped with a sweet potato puree on the side. We can’t confirm if this is purely sweet potato, or if sugar, milk or cream were added. However, it did taste extremely fragrant. It’s mildly sweet and earthy.
We later found out it’s because their sweet potatoes are imported from Japan.
Lastly, for a more savoury treat, perhaps the That’s So Cheesy ($7.5) would suit your better. It’s simply mozzarella and honey on the side. Somehow, the mozzarella was relatively more salty than usual. But, it countered the subtle sweetness of the honey toasts. If you’d like it sweeter though, you can drizzle in more honey that’s served on the side.
Drinks at 9Toast
While the honey glazed toasts should be the star of this cafe, the drinks were actually much more memorable.
In addition to basic drinks like Black Coffee ($4.5) and Matcha Latte ($6.5), you can enjoy these following interesting drinks.
One of the best matcha variations, we recommend their Yuzu Matcha Tea ($7). This combination is rarely found in Singapore, and I’m glad 9Toast executed it well.
The tang for the yuzu paired with the grassy notes of the matcha. And as a base, the green tea complemented both elements. I loved how it was sweet and tangy at first, before it quickly transitions into the astringency you’d get from the matcha.
Similarly, for that interesting contrasting profile, opt for the Black Coffee Macchiato ($6.5) — a famous drink in South Korea.
An extremely bitter dark roast was used, which pairs well with the sweet and salty cream on top.
Lastly, for more of that sweet potato goodness, opt for the Purple Haze Latte ($8.5). Just like the puree used in the toast, it was not too sweet and very fragrant.
