Back-of-House – “Former Supreme Court: Unseen, Unheard” Tour
This guided tour is National Gallery Singapore’s latest programme, where you can explore hidden areas that are usually out-of-bounds to the public.
You can book a tour every weekend from 2:30pm to 4:30pm at only $25 per pax. The duration of the Back-of-House tour is around 90 minutes.
What to expect?
The guided tour will take you through a network of hidden passageways and trapdoors. Catacomb vibes, anyone?
In addition, you’ll have the chance to stand in the Prisoner’s Dock, gain access to the Viewing Gallery, where members of the public would sit at during court hearings, and lastly, gain exclusive access to the Chief Justice’s private lift and courtroom seat. You won’t be able to sit on it though!
You wouldn’t think that there is enough hidden areas in National Gallery for the Back-of-House tour to last more than an hour, but there was surprisingly a lot to see. The walk was also enhanced with interesting stories on the highest profile cases in Singapore since 1939. If the thought of murder and gore scares you, this might not be the best activity to sign up for then.
Lastly, this tour involves walking through narrow walkways and stairs. An alternative route is available for visitors with limited mobility, but each tour group can only accommodate up to one wheelchair user, so do inform them in advance while booking your slot.
