Coffee roastery tour at Kim Guan Guan
Learn all about how Singapore roasts its traditional Nanyang coffee beans with local roastery Kim Guan Guan.

Not only will you get to see their roasting process up-close, the tour guide will take you through the story of how Nanyang kopi was founded, why it’s roasted in a certain way, and what’s the best possible way to brew them.
For instance, we learned that coffee is differentiated between light, medium, medium-dark and dark roast. Nanyang Kopi, also known as the Singapore Roast, is finished at 240 degrees celsius so it’s considered a dark roast.
In fact, Nanyang Kopi should have almost zero acidity. Instead, it should tasty nutty and have a thick, syrupy texture that coats your mouth and tongue when you take a sip. If that’s not the case, the kopitiam uncle probably made a few mistakes along the way.
While brewing coffee can come across as simple as adding hot water into the coffee grounds, even a slight difference in temperature can completely change the flavours of the final pot.

The staff at Kim Guan Guan also shared a really interesting tip: take a spoonful of yolk without any soy sauce and pepper. Then, take a sip of coffee. You’ll notice how much extra nuttier it tastes.
However, do note that a minimum of five pax per group is required for each tour. The hotel will inform you on the availability of the tour prior to your visit.
