[REVIEW] DJI Mavic Mini Drone – Essential traveling gear

Some may swear on the group travels for the laughter and safety while others champion on the cultural ventures of solo traveling. Regardless of who you travel with, we highly recommend bringing along the new DJI Mini Mavic Drone. We’ve bought it on two of our trips already, and it has truly been a game changer. And this is why…

Lightweight

Perceived as huge and bulky, drones are definitely not something that one would bring along for a light travel. But the new DJI Mini Mavic has a featherlight weight of 249g and dimensions of 140×82×57mm (folded). If you are tech illiterate like me, all that translate to roughly the weight and size of an iPhone X.

Registration Hassle

Official registration is required for drones weighing 250g and above, which is why its odd 249g is such a game changer.

Aerial Shots

Having a drone helps you capture majestic aerial shots that are otherwise impossible with other methods.

Its photography mode is only available in single shots, with intervals of 2/3/5/7/10/15/20/30/60s and dimensions of 4000×3000 and 4000×2250.

Meanwhile, its videography mode is limited to either 2.7K or FHD. Not the best specifications, but the DJI Mini Mavic is definitely good enough for recreational drone videography.

Pro-tip: use the drone to take photos of yourself!

Easy Maneuvering

Because of its size and weight, the DJI Mini Mavic is one of the easier drones to fly. Moreover, despite its mass, it holds up quite well against turbulent winds.

Basic Set or Combo Set

If you’ve made it this far the article you’re probably itching to get your hands on one. The DJI Mini Mavic comes in the Basic Set (S$530) and the Fly More Combo (S$630).

In short, the Fly More Combo comes with additional accessories to replace any old and broken ones. But more importantly, it comes with a Flight Guard designed to protect the blades during flight and a Soft Box to keep the drone, controller and the battery pack.

From my perspective, the extra $100 is worth the purchase. With the lifespan of 30 minutes, one battery is not enough for the day. More importantly, the protective case prevents any damages to the drone when traveling.
