Fat Belly Steakhouse review – So good, you don’t need any sauce

Denver cross section medium rare steak

They say that they’re the best casual steakhouse in Bukit Timah.

Bold Claim, but Fat Belly Steakhouse might be right. Located on the outskirts of a quite mall, this steakhouse is so good, our server actually advised against ordering any sauces — so as to keep the flavours of the beef pure.

The steaks we tried

Rump Cap picanha cross section at Fat Belly Steakhouse

The Full Blood Wagyu MS 9+ Rump Cap ($56) was a masterclass in indulgence.

Its fat cap was rendered to perfection, basting the meat with richness as you bite into it. Already one of the most flavourful cuts, the picanha here reached new heights with the fat cap.

Each steak comes with a bulb of roasted garlic and flaky sea salt. But personally, the steak was perfectly seasoned. Eating it with anything else — even a sprinkle of salt — would really tarnish the flavours of the beef. In other words, our server was right.

Denver steak

The Full Blood Wagyu MS 8/9 Denver ($65) was also another solid choice, but I preferred the richer, fuller flavours of the rump cap.

A side dish you must get

Apparently, beyond their steaks, Fat Belly Steakhouse was also really famous for this dish.

Fried Brussels Sprout at Fat Belly

We never would’ve guessed it, but it’s a plate of roasted brussels sprout.

Sweet, smokey, salty all in once, their Fried Brussels Sprouts ($14) was truly addictive. You can’t say you’ve been to Fat Belly without trying this iconic dish, for real.

Sourdough and Raclette

We also tried their Sourdough ($7) and Raclette Cheese ($20), which were pretty standard stuff; nothing much to comment on.
