They’re called Marugo Donuts, but they’ve actually got the best coffee in the whole of Aso City

Located in Aso, a volcanic town in Kyushu, Japan, Marugo Donuts uses the famous Aso Milk in their drinks

The best coffee in Aso, here’s why

You can opt for a classic cup of Coffee (¥630) — same price for Black and White Coffee, hot and iced. 

Aso Milk Brew

But, to fully savour the nuances of Aso Milk, we recommend the Aso Milk Brew (¥680). 

Coffee beans are steeped in cold, fresh Aso Milk for 16 hours. Think coffee-flavoured milk, but way better. None of that coffee syrup bullshit, but better.

Iced Matcha Latte in Aso, Kyushu

The Matcha Latte (¥650) was also surprisingly good. The matcha powder at Marugo Donuts was kept unnamed, but it tasted like ceremonial matcha — very nutty, very creamy. 

We recommend asking for less ice.

Donuts at this cafe average at roughly ¥420 

Truth be told, the flavours were interesting, but the texture was towards the denser side.

Overall, still great, but their drinks triumphed.
