Carrot Cakes aren’t the easiest food to make at home. Trust me, we’ve tried. Therefore, we recommend Amelia’s Homemade Carrot Cake- Hong Kong-style Carrot Cakes aka ‘Lo Bak Go’ delivered to your doorstep.

Homemade Carrot Cakes

Amelia’s Carrot Cakes come in two flavors: Original and Pumpkin (S$10 each); both generously loaded with ingredients such as Chinese Sausages, dried shrimp and dried shiitake mushrooms. The white radish is grated courser than usual to provide extra texture.

Each box weighs 700g which is roughly 8 1cm thick slices.

The Pumpkin has an added touch of sweetness compared to the traditional flavor.

Amelia truly exceeded our expectations. The carrot cakes were soft but not mushy, and they were scrumptious. The Chinese sausages and dried shrimp provided pockets of savory, the shredded radish added a touch of sweetness and the mushrooms tied the flavors together with its earthy flavors.

When ordering, you can opt for less salt if you prefer your food lightly seasoned.

To enjoy them, you can either steam or pan-fry them. Additionally, you can cut them into cubes and fry it with eggs, garlic and spring onions.

We pan-fried ours with a touch of oil for a crispy exterior which added flavor and texture to the carrot cakes.

As Amelia’s carrot cakes are freshly made to order and has no added preservatives (and MSG, in case anyone was wondering), the storage duration is only 3 days in the fridge and 2 weeks in the freezer.

Dumplings (Bak Chang)

Amelia has also recently launched their homemade bak changs (dumplings). We managed to get our hands on the Hokkien Bak Chang and Nyonya Chang (S$5.5 each).

They were seasoned perfectly- with a homely taste to them- and a very generous portion of ingredients.

While we enjoyed both dumplings, our hearts were won over by the fatty pieces of pork in the Hokkien. Not only were they melt-in-your-mouth, they had a smokey, roasted aroma to it.

The dumplings can last 2 weeks in the fridge and up to 4 weeks in the freezer.
