$1.99 for sushi, and $19.9 for an omakase?
You didn’t read that wrong. There’s a new sushi restaurant in Singapore that’s all the hype.
We tried their $29.9 omakase set, and here’s our honest review of Sushidan.
Omakase from $19.9
Omakase at Sushidan starts from $19.9 for their Goshoku Set, available in regular and aburi sets. It comes with four nigiri sushi, negitoro handroll, and three seasonal ochoko creations, which are essentially mini rice bowls. It’s completed with chawanmushi and miso soup.

Alternatively, you can get the $29.9 Nanairo Set that comes with six nigiri sushi instead.
There’s no concrete details on what type of nigiri sushi you’ll receive in either set. It is omakase after all.

What’s the hype about?
Aside from the insanely affordable prices, Sushidan is founded by Chef Hiroyuki Sato — the legendary sushi master behind Tokyo’s Michelin-starred Sushi Tokami.

Despite the low prices, all seafood are sourced directly from Tokyo’s Toyosu Market and served it Edomae-style, which means the fish are cured or marinated beforehand. They’re also famed for their Red Shari, which is sushi rice seasoned with a special blend of red vinegars from Kyoto and Tokyo, which gives it a deep, savory umami.
So, was our omakase set worth it?
For freshly made nigiri sushi, I’d say yes. Every piece of fish tasted super fresh, even their basic salmon nigiri got us salivating.

What surprised us though, was their aburi flounder nigiri sushi. It was fatty, buttery, but still retained a firm bite at its core. Flounder tend to be meatier and leaner, but the restaurant serves the fins only, which explains its fattier texture.
We later found out from Chef Ken-san that it’s their most popular item at Sushidan, followed by the negitoro handroll.
Portions-wise, I wouldn’t mind having a little more, but my friend was more than satisfied.
