Unchartered, the latest adventure movie starring Tom Holland, is a film-adaptation of the action-adventure game series developed by Naughty Dog.

While the cast is impressive, fans of the game have voiced their concerns regarding the accuracy of the casting and storyline.

Uncharted follows Nathan Drake, a treasure hunter who travels across the world to uncover various historical mysteries. He is often accompanied by his friend, mentor and father figure, Victor “Sully” Sullivan.

The characters are played by Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg respectively. While both actors have large fanbases, fans of the game disapproved the casting.

“Probably because they know this movie will bomb, so they try to put popular actors in the movie to soften the blow,” a user commented on Reddit.

Tom is best known for its role as Spider-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Meanwhile, Mark Wahlberg has appeared in various movies but is most famous for his roles in Ted, Daddy’s Home and Transformers franchises.

Tom may be able to embody Nathan’s Charisma. But Reddit users are worried that his baby face would make it difficult for him to continue playing the role of Nathan if there were sequels to the movie.

Mark was simply not a good fit for the role of Sully. Nolan North, the voice of Nathan, agreed.

The age difference between the game characters and movie stars is the biggest disparity. Both characters are much older in the games, especially Sully who has white hair and wrinkles. However, it’s worth noting that Unchartered dictates the origin stories of Nathan and Sully. Hence, the movie portrays younger versions of the characters.

The movie is a prequel to the games, explaining how Nathan and Victor embarked on their journeys to become renowned treasure hunter.

Hence it’s hard to determine the accuracy the movie’s storyline, since the game does not explicitly narrate it. However, this implies that there is a lot of room for creative freedom.

The official trailers have also given us an insight of what to expect in the movie. The epic plane scene featured is taken from the third game, implying that more scenes from the games will be used in the movie.

Unchartered will be released in the cinema on 18th February.
