4D3N Khao Yai Itinerary – Best things to do in Khao Yai Thailand

Khao Yai has become a favourite getaway for Singaporeans, known for its charming European-style architecture, scenic landscapes, and a growing cafe scene. This 4D3N itinerary hits all the highlights of Khao Yai at a relaxed pace, blending farm and animal experiences, art and cafe stops and plenty of time to enjoy the region’s natural beauty.

Day 1

1. Drive to Khao Yai from Bangkok

We recommend picking up your rental car at Don Mueang Airport, which is slightly closer to Khao Yai and offers quicker access to the highway, which is helpful for saving travel time.

We booked our car through Klook, and the process was straightforward and efficient. After selecting our travel dates, the platform showed a range of rental options to suit different needs. We went with a Toyota Yaris from Thai Rent A Car, a well-established and reliable rental company in Thailand. Upon arrival, the car rental booth was easy to locate, and after completing the paperwork, we were promptly escorted to the vehicle. The car was clean, well-maintained, and felt relatively new, ideal for a comfortable road trip.

2. Oria Cafe

This hidden, cottage-style cafe doubles as a homestay and has a storybook charm, with wooden furnishings, teddy bears and even a piano adding to the cosy atmosphere. We were pleasantly surprised by the quality of both the cakes and drinks. The banoffee cake stood out, with generous chunks of banana and a balanced sweetness, while the Choco Mountain was rich and indulgent without being overpowering.

3. Farm Chokchai (Optional)

If time allows, consider stopping by Farm Chokchai, one of Khao Yai’s most recognisable attractions. The farm offers a look into rural life, with open spaces, animal-feeding and family-friendly activities. If you’re short on time, skipping the guided tour and exploring the grounds on your own still gives you a good sense of the place.

4. Check-in: dusitD2 Khao Yai

End the day by checking in at dusitD2 Khao Yai, a modern mountain retreat near Khao Yai National Park. Set against a lush backdrop, the hotel offers luxurious rooms, mountain views and a relaxed atmosphere. Facilities include an outdoor pool, a mini zoo with alpacas, a rock-climbing wall, and activities such as cycling, hiking and wellness programmes.

This stay can be booked conveniently through Klook as well.

5. Dinner

Keep dinner simple with a meal at one of the many roadside stalls nearby. It’s an easy, no-frills way to end the day and a great introduction to the local food scene around Khao Yai.

Day 2:
6. Vintage Car Ride at Trot Cafe

Start the morning at Trot Cafe which serves crepes and coffee. While the food and drinks are decent, the real highlight here is the experience, visitors can rent a cute mini vintage car and drive it around the cafe’s vicinity. Prices start from 600 baht for an hour, which feels surprisingly reasonable for something this unique.

7. Take Me Home Park @ Khao Yai

Just a short distance away is Take Me Home Park, making it a convenient next stop. The main draw here is an aeroplane-themed cafe set in the middle of a wide flower field, complete with a carousel that younger visitors can enjoy, or simply use as a charming photo backdrop. Entry costs 120 baht, which can be offset against food and drinks at the cafe. If you’re short on time or prefer not to enter, you can still grab a few photos from just outside the entrance, as the plane itself is visible and this attraction is located very close to Trot Cafe.

8. Lunch at Muen Lan

For lunch, head to Muen Lan, a popular local restaurant known for its Northeastern Thai–inspired dishes. It boasts a 4.5-star rating on Google, reflecting its popularity among visitors and locals alike.

9. DIY Activities at La Reina Cafe

Stop by this artsy cafe if you’re into DIY activities, which is also known for its vibrant and colourful latte art. Each cup costs just 95 baht, making it an extremely affordable treat for the amount of effort placed into each cup. The cafe is perfect for kids or couples, offering creative activities such as painting on canvas or decorating keychains.

10. Dinner at Raleuk Khao Yai

End the day with dinner at Raleuk Khao Yai, a restaurant that impresses with both its service and ambience. The menu features authentic Thai dishes that are delicious and unpretentious, letting the flavours speak for themselves. Outside the restaurant, you can also take photos with the rows of teddy bears hanging on the wall.

Day 3:
11. Floryday Cafe

You can feed animals here, dress up in hanbok costumes and snap endless photos among the flower fields and fun props. The real show-stealers are the pigs and goats that roam freely around the field, often sporting the cutest little outfits. The 100 baht entrance fee can be redeemed for food and drinks

12. Toy Train Ride at Khao Yai Art Tree

Next, visit Khao Yai Art Tree, a barn-style cafe with a fun toy train ride around the scenic grounds, even passing through a dinosaur’s mouth! The 100 baht entry can be used as a discount for food, drinks or the train ride. Note that the resort area is only for hotel guests, but the cafe and train areas offer plenty of photo opportunities.

13. Khao Yai Art Museum

End the day with a quick stop at Khao Yai Art Museum. It is completely free to enter and it takes about 30 minutes to explore three galleries with seasonal rotating exhibits. It’s a peaceful and creative contrast to the playful morning.

14. Dinner at Kuni Kuni

For a truly memorable dinner, head to Kuni Kuni, the popular treehouse restaurant at DusitD2 Khao Yai. Perched atop the Asili Tree, it offers stunning panoramic views of the surrounding mountains and a unique, safari-like atmosphere.

We highly recommend trying their chicken skewers, a standout dish that perfectly showcases the smoky and rich flavors. If you’re booking ahead, ask for outdoor seating as the elevated view and fresh mountain air make the dining experience even more special.

Day 4:
15. Mulberry picking

Khao Yai has a variety of fruit-picking experiences, but we opted for mulberry picking which is a more unique option compared to the usual grapes or strawberries. The activity was surprisingly fun and relaxing, perfect for a morning outdoors. Tip: look for dark, ripe berries that come off the branch easily. Many farms also sell fresh mulberry juice and jams.

16. The Chocolate Factory

No trip to Khao Yai is complete without stopping at the The Chocolate Factory, one of the region’s most famous sweet spots. Enjoy their signature chocolate drinks, browse an array of chocolate souvenirs and indulge in some decadent treats before wrapping up your trip.

17. Head back to Bangkok

Head back to the city, but take a moment to enjoy the last glimpses of Khao Yai’s landscapes and slow-paced charm along the way.

If you’d rather skip the self-drive, Klook also offers guided tours to Khao Yai that include transport and a local guide, making it easy to explore the highlights without any hassle.
