What’s your version of an ideal burger? Whether it’s a classic cheeseburger or bougie variations, we’ve got them covered. Here’s our curated (but definitely not complete) list of the best burger places in Singapore.

1. Meatsmith

This American smokehouse at Telok Ayer has truly laid down the definition of a cheeseburger. Lightly crusted potato buns, succulent beef brisket patties seared with a smoky aroma. And as you lift the perfect concoction up, buns still warm to the touch, a little bit of juice oozing out from the cracks of the caramelized patties.

You take a bite and you get a bit of the bun, the patty, the melty, savory cheese. But there’s more. The blanket of pickles not only added a layer of crunch to the fluffy buns and tender patties, but its acidic tangy profile serrated the decadent flavors of the meat and cheddar combination.

2. Shake Shack

Not every food truck can turn into an international fast food chain. But Shake Shack has managed to propagate its influence past America’s borders. First opened in Jewel Changi Airport, subsequently a second branch on Neil Road, Shake Shack serves traditional smashburgers with a side of crinkle-cut fries and shakes.

Get their Double Shackburger ($12.7), a classic engineered with fluffy potato buns, lettuce and tomato; not forgetting their secret burger sauce.

Vegetarians who wish to get a piece of the burger action can order their Shroom Burger ($10.8). The patty is replaced with fried portobello mushroom encased with melty, gooey cheese which oozes out on the first bite.

3. Three Buns Burgers

Proclaiming themselves as the best burger joint in Singapore, this humble restaurant places a lot of emphasis on quality, as reflected by almost all their ingredients which are made from scratch.

You could go for something big like their Red Man Burger ($28) which features an entire block of beef cheek, cooked sous vide for 24 hours before immersing in a sweet and spicy rendang spice. To add on to the local flavors, the buns are made with coconut oil and milk, resulting in a similar flavor profile to our familiar nasi lemak dish.

For something a little more traditional, go for Da Cheese Master ($15), a classic cheeseburger with an interesting spin of caramelized onions and white miso paste.

4. Ollie Kitchen & Bar

For those who value gourmet burgers, Ollie’s Kitchen and Bar is the place to be. Using only the finest ingredients and adept craftsmanship, Ollie’s has managed to nurture distinct personalities within their range of cheeseburgers. You get the short-tempered, feisty Muddy Burger ($19), a burger smothered with a ladle of chilli. Then, there’s also the refined, upperclassman defined by it’s spoonful of truffle aioli- the Truffle Cheese Burger ($17.9)

Their menu is diverse, expanding to mains, brunch items and even coffee and beer. But if you’re here and you’re not ordering a burger, it’s really your loss.

6. Kream & Kensho

Kream & Kensho’s Beef Cheeseburger ($20) may be on the pricier side, but it shows great potential with a 180g wagyu patty that is topped with a kombu wakame mayo. The wagyu was obviously flavourful, juicy and the buns were pillowy soft. But the star of the burger had to be the sauce. The kombu wakame mayo was robust and umami and took the classic cheeseburger to new heights. However, make sure they give enough, as there was barely a tablespoon worth on the one I got.

7. Hammees’s

Hammee’s burgers are truly a bang for a buck. Located a Commonwealth Crescent & Food Centre, their Signature Cheeseburgers cost $6 for their singles and $8 for their doubles.

You’ll definitely get your hands dirty from the thick coating of butter on their freshly-toasted buns. The patties are rich in flavour from the intense heat of the grill and a generous addition of beef tallow and is balanced out by the creamy slice of cheese and pockets of fiery heat from the chopped jalapenos. Enough of my blabbering, just take a look at the photo yourself.

8. 25 Degrees Burgers & Liquor Bar

The burgers here aren’t blessed with names. They’re designated numbers — Number One to Number Four. The options are limited but the amount of creativity when it comes to the ingredients on the burgers are boundless. For example, their Number One consists of *takes deep breath* signature 200g USA Angus beef patty, caramelised onions, crescenza, prelibato gorgonzola, Canadian bacon, arugula and a drizzle of thousand island sauce.

Their Number Two and Number Three are other forms of beef burgers. On the other hand, their Number Four is an entirely different game- seared yellowfin tuna with spicy aioli.

Do your wallet a favor and come on a weekday for their lunch deal instead, where you can get a set meal at $18 from 11am to 3pm.
