[REVIEW] Chock Full Of Beans – 3D latte art

Tucked away in the extreme East of Singapore, Chock Full Of Beans is a hidden gem in Changi Village that is worth visiting, especially if you’re up for anything instagrammable to show off on your feed. This cosy and laid-back cafe offers brunches and pasta with their signature beverages that come with intricate latte art designs hand-drawn by their talented baristas. Dog owners will also be pleased to know that this cafe is also pet-friendly outdoors!

Heart, rosetta, and spirals are some of the commonly seen latte art at many basic cafes, but the baristas here take it up a notch with impressive detailing in their artwork. Request for your business logo, a favourite cartoon or perhaps even a illustration of your cute dog! There’s nothing more satisfying than to sip on a cuppa hot coffee with cheery designs to chase your Monday Blues away!

Customised Latte Art

The sheltered alfresco seating area is quite spacious, giving more than enough room for your pups to roam around if they need (But do remember to leash them!) Having visited Chock Full Of Beans a couple of times in the last few years, I must say that they have taken their latte art skills to the next level with such elaborate visual appeal. We decided on our very own District Sixtyfive logo, and a cute chef to represent my personal career.

Their IG feed is also seen flooding with photos of 2d and 3d latte art, which you can get inspiration from if you cannot make up your mind.

The Matcha Latte (S$6) stood out from the crowd as it’s sweetened with honey (most likely acacia), adding a light sweetness and floral perfume to the drink. This is how I’ve been making my matcha latte at home ever since.

3D latte art is also available for cold drinks.

Mains and Brunches

Italian chefs will scream at Chock Full Of Bean’s Carbonara. Doused in cream, infused with garlic and complemented with bacon, this is a dish that is deemed blasphemy in Italy. But we’re in Singapore, and for a sacrilegious adaptation, it was pretty decent, although slightly too decadent towards the end. It’s also topped with a sous vide egg for an extra touch of richness.

The Carbonara is part of their Weekday Set Lunch (S$16), inclusive of one main dish and one drink or soup of the day. Mains include Cubano Sandwich, Eggs Benedict, Aglio Olio and more.

The Pulled Pork Eggs Benedict (S$16) came as a hefty portion. The multigrain toast, although seemingly dry, was moist and pillowy soft. Surprisingly, it was the star of the show. Not that the pulled pork was bad, but it lacked finesse. I wished there was more complexity and depth of flavor. But overall a passable dish.

Verdict

Worth a visit at least once in a lifetime if you’re into customised food designs!
