While the usage of premium matcha powder plays a part, its incomparable flavour and texture is derived from whisking the matcha powder in cold water for 6-8 hours. The slow infusion assists the intense vegetal notes and floral notes to creep into the drink.

Matchaya serves both Matcha and Hojicha Cold Brew. While both were palatable, the matcha variation stood out more with its subtle undertones.

For a milder and creamier matcha latte, Old Hen Coffee‘s variation will be your cup of tea (pun intended).

Alternatively, challenge yourself and brew your own matcha drink at home with their matcha powder. Matchaya’s Uji Matcha Powder ($16.9 for 30g) promises bittersweet, umami and notes of white flower. While it is culinary grade, it remains a solid choice for matcha latte recipes.

For a more robust and umami profile, opt for their Okumidori Ceremonial Grade Matcha ($59.9). Or take the easy way out with their Instant Matcha Latte Powder ($14.9)

Matcha Desserts in Singapore

The Hojicha Cream Puff boasted heavy chocolate notes and a generous amount of cream. While the flavour was decent, the soggy choux pastry resulted in its downfall.

Meanwhile, the Mixed Cheesecake fared better. Similar to their cream puff and drinks, there were distinct matcha and hojicha flavors. However, the black sesame crust was lacking its signature bitter note. Strangely, the honey added to it was more prominent.


Matchaya Review - Matcha Cold Brew

The desserts were decent for its price and while there are better alternatives, they are still worth the try. If there is one thing you have to get, it is the Cold Whisked Matcha Milk at Matchaya.
