We’ve seen an abundance of burger joints in Singapore and also a gradual increase of Mexican delights. Meanwhile, hotdogs remain clouded under the success of his counterparts. There’s the basic hotdog. Simple toasted bun with a simple chicken frank with a squirt of simple condiments. But, give it a chance and you’ll discover his hidden potentials. Mac and cheese? Bolognese? Crabmeat? You name it, and you’ll probably find something you’re looking for, or more, at SuperSub.

SuperSub is a contemporary hotdog joint located at Suntec City and outside Paya Lebar Quarters, famed for its unorthodox menu. It starts off with a basic hotdog; relish, tomatoes, lettuce and all. Then, you take it a step further with a scoop of Mac & Cheese (S$7.8).

A generous portion of Mac & Cheese was given, which could also be used as an additional dip for the tortilla chips.

We also got the Fiery Chic Bolognese (S$7.8) which was a combination of minced chicken in a spicy tomato-based sauce, jalapeño and cheddar. I was slightly disappointed that the cheddar wasn’t melted, and also barely flavoured, probably a mix of an innate lack of flavour plus the overwhelming flavour of the bolognese.

The toppings were certainly interesting, with more intriguing options like Yuzu Crabmeat and Truffle Egg Mayo. But the general consensus was that- at least for the two items that we tried- were pretty underwhelming. Don’t get me wrong, they tasted decent. But do you really want to pay S$8 for a hotdog?
