Even if you haven’t heard of Yakiniku Like, you would have probably seen the cluster of hungry customers loitering outside the restaurant at Paya Lebar Quarters, giving diners the death stare. “Hurry up… please…” Yes, this is the infamous teppanyaki restaurant that doesn’t allow reservations, with an estimated waiting time of 1.5 hours.

The first question that comes to mind: is this restaurant worth the wait?

The two sets that we got were the Trio Set, which comprises of Beef Short Plate, Pork Jowl and Chicken Thigh, and the Sukiyaki Karubi Set.

I’ll just get straight to the point and declare that out of the two, only the beef was worth getting. It was tender; its decently marbled slices ensnared every bit of luscious meat juice. A smokey char, enhancing both mouthfeel and taste, bestowed upon by the mighty grill.

In comparison, the pork jowl had a rather tough texture. Meanwhile, while the chicken was actually pretty good, it pales in comparison with the beef.

Don’t get me wrong, it’s not like they were horrible. It’s still a viable option if it’s your first visit and you want to try everything. Also, if you’re dining with a friend who can’t eat beef.

The Sukiyaki Karubi Set, which consists of only the Beef Short Plate, costs S$13.8 for 200g.

The reason for its demand is how good the meal is for its price. We left Yakiniku Like with our stomachs full and our hearts even fuller, only at a price of S$15 for what felt like a S$30 meal.

In essence, if you want to save a few dollars and don’t mind the long waiting time, then this is the place to be. However, if time is of the essence, you’d be better off elsewhere with a slightly higher budget.
