What comes to mind when you think of a hearty local breakfast?

YY Kafei Dian, a Hainanese coffee shop along Beach Road, is renowned for the fluffiest kaya toast in Singapore and old-school sugar donuts.

Our honest review of YY Kafei Dian

Is it worth the hype?

I mean… the Kaya Bun only costs $1.6, and look at how thick and fluffy it is. As touted by netizens online, the buns were one of the fluffiest. Although some may argue that the standards have fallen quite a bit.

The kaya also had a good amount of sweetness. However, given the thickness of the buns, a little more kaya would have been appreciated.

Meanwhile, for a more filling breakfast, the Kaya Toast Set ($4.1) includes one piece of toast, two soft-boiled eggs and one cup of kopi (coffee) or teh (tea).

It was a refreshing experience from the usual places people would get kaya toasts from, such as Ya Kun and neighbourhood coffee shops.

Meanwhile, the kopi at YY Kafei Dian had bolder flavour from the Nanyang coffee against the condensed milk.
