Whoever disapproved of Singapore’s fashion industry was definitely not paying attention to some of the latest drops by our local talents. You have your minimalistic pieces that are a step up from your plain old t-shirts and polos. Think, UNIQLO and MUJI, but with flair. On the other hand, you have big bold statement pieces that are in line with the biggest trends of fall 2022.

Explore a range of new styles at FashionCONNECTS’ pop-up, located at Design Orchard — including local fashion brands such as IKV, JUDE, and Coterie.

FashionCONNECTS is a two-weeks long festival that aims to democratise fashion. The fashion world has always been portrayed as if it’s reserved just for the upper class. Hence, aside from the pop-up, runway shows (tickets are already sold out) would be held at easily accessible locations, and with no admission fee.

Fronted by creative director Daniel Boey, also known as the Godfather of Singapore’s fashion, FashionCONNECTS also acts as a stage for budding designers to showcase the work. Every piece is made sustainably, as a way to promote eco-consciousness.

Standing out from the other collections are the unique statement pieces from IKV.

The local clothing brand embraces eco-friendly and sustainable practices, committing on only using old donated clothes and discarded commercial plastic banners in their latest collection.

2. JUDE

On the other end of the spectrum, we have something more reserved, more conservative. But don’t be mistaken. Minimal colours and designs do not equate to basic.

JUDE is a contemporary clothing and accessories label created by designer Jude Ng. His background in the Fine Arts provides Ng a unique perspective of what fashion could be. Hence, came the birth of their signature asymmetry designs.

They’re also known for their gender neutral twist on apparels, such as the ISRA Long Tunic Vest, and IMANI Asymmetrical Button Top.

3. Coterie

White shirts are an absolute staple in any wardrobe, and Coterie takes it up a notch.

The collection is designed by KL-based Singaporean designer Celest Thoi, and this new line of casual-chic apparels that takes the mundane out of everyday wear. The pieces comprises shirts, shirt dresses and maxi dresses. Although the cutting and texture of this collection are unique, they’re still easy to pair with other clothings.

For a casual look, pair the white shirts with skirts, shorts and even a pair of jeans. Meanwhile, switch the bottoms with a long skirt or wide pants for a more jazzed up look.
