Unlike other cafes, Medano Coffee’s latest MO Cafe in a Restaurant aims to empower a new generation of restaurants with the ability to serve good coffee without much incremental cost. Previously located at Tampines COURTS Megastore, they’ve relocated to East Coast Park for a more relaxing seaside ambience and have partnered with Georges, a Balinese concept bistro.

Medano Coffee’s Award-winning MØLACCA®

MOLACCA, Gula Melaka Coffee with Pandan and Coconut by MO Cafe, Medano. Iced (left) and hot (right)

Rated the best coffee drink at Singapore Coffee Festival 2017 by Business Insider, Medano Coffee’s MØLACCA® ($6.5 for hot, $8.5 for iced) is coffee infused with gula melaka syrup, coconut milk and hints of pandan. It aims to provide a unique experience. Yet, its Southeastern flavors retains a sense of familiarity and comfort within.

The espresso is extracted from their single origin arabica beans from Indonesia. Medano Coffee has their own coffee plantation and roaster in the country, allowing them to ensure that only the best beans are produced and harvested. Their single origin from Gayo highlands in Central Aceh has a fragrant aftertaste and mild acidity that accentuates the sweetness of the MØLACCA®. I expected a cloying drink, but was greeted with a balanced flavor profile. The gula melaka hits you first, with a light aroma of pandan as you bring the cup to your lips. The coconut aftertaste creeps in afterwards, mingling with the slight bitterness from the coffee.

MO Cafe at Georges also offers Espresso-based coffee for the less-adventurous. An Espresso costs $3.5, a Long Black at $5 and Cafe Latte at $5.9.

Mains at Georges

With a humble beginning at Pasir Ris Park, this Balinese concept bistro has grown into a reputable beach bar at East Coast Park.

Crabmeat & Prawn Chowder at Georges Singapore

The Crabmeat & Prawn Chowder ($10.9) was creamy and loaded with ingredients. There’s always a chunk of meat in every spoon. Do note that it’s supposed to come in a bigger bowl wide a side of garlic bread.

BBQ Baby Pork Ribs at Georges Singapore. Served on wooden platter

The BBQ Baby Pork Ribs ($23.9 for 1/2 rack, $35.9 for full rack) was rather tender and was served atop a healthy portion of fries.

Salmon Fillet with Mango Salsa at Georges Singapore

Meanwhile, their Salmon Fillet with Mango Salsa ($24.9) was a little dry. The crispiness of the skin could also be improved on. However, the tangy mango salsa, which was a unique experience for me, managed to salvage the dish.
