If you’re travelling to Bario, here’s the accommodation you should consider — Nancy Harriss Home Stay.
We can’t objectively say that this is the best home stay lodging, since this is the only one we’ve stayed at. But, Nancy Harriss Home Stay is recommended by Brighton Travel, a travel agency based in Miri, Malaysia.
Here’s what we find great about Nancy Harriss Home Stay
Pros of this home stay:
- Planned itinerary and arranged transport
- Clean rooms and dining area
- Tasty food
- Convenient 3km ride from Bario Airport

Which rooms to choose?
The main house has two rooms, some with two beds and some with three. Each room is equipped with one toilet, with a toilet bowl, small sink, and shower area.

Personally, I love staying in the main house as it’s more lively and convenient. It’s where the meals are set up, and where the water, tea bags and coffee sachets are kept.
But, it can get a little noisy as that’s where all the other guests will gather. Hence, if you want more privacy, opt for one of their side houses, located a 3-minutes walk away.
The downside of their side houses is of course the inconvenience, especially when it rains as there is no sheltered walkway to the main house.
“Downsides” of staying at a kampong
However, it is a kampong home stay after all, so here’s what to expect.
- No toilet paper
- Weak data roaming (faster WiFi is available for purchase on the spot)
- Meet-up time might be earlier or later than what was discussed
