Get ready, Singapore, because the viral warabimochi drink from Japan — Warabimochi Kamakura — will be opening its first Southeast Asian outlet at One Holland Village on 3 February 2024.

Boasting over 50 stores across Japan, this much-loved warabimochi has captured the hearts and taste buds of many, thanks to its innovative approach to the classic warabimochi.

But what’s the hype really about?

Warabimochi, a beloved Japanese delicacy, stands out from its traditional mochi counterparts. Crafted from bracken starch, this delightful treat boasts a jelly-like consistency that melts in your mouth, distinguishing it from the chewy texture of regular mochi.

According to their website, Warabimochi Kamakura is committed to using the finest ingredients. Pure black sugar syrup, made with brown sugar from Okinawa, ensures the purest flavours as its rid of starch syrup and molasses. Meanwhile, Asakawaen’s matcha is used for its strong fragrance and light astringency. Lastly, to achieve that melt-in-them-mouth texture, a secret formula is added to the locally-sourced bracken flour.

In addition to the classic warabimochi and Japanese tea, what contributed to Warabimochi Kamakura’s hype is its ingenious creation — the Warabimochi Drinks.

Each cup features a warabimochi base, ensuring a silky-smooth mouthfeel.

Warabimochi Kamakura’s menu includes: Strawberry Yogurt, Strawberry Milk, Asakawa-En Matcha, Tenku No Hojicha, and Coffee Milk.

Meanwhile, the mochi comes in a box of five pieces ($7.9) or ten pieces ($14.9). If you’re getting the ten pieces, you could also top up an additional $3 to opt for a traditional wooden box packaging.
