[REVIEW] Frontyard Cafe – Macarons speciality cafe at Jalan Besar
A hidden gem between Jalan Besar and Bendemeer, Frontyard, is a spacious cafe that specialises in macarons, cakes and brunch.
It’s located beside Hambaobao, Antea Social, and Beach Road Scissors-Cut Curry Rice.
Frontyard’s signature Fatcarons
The macarons — almost like “fatcarons” — were the star of the show. We had the Royal Earl Grey ($4.5) and Coconut Mango Tango ($4.5). Both flavours were pronounced with a slight chew to the macaron shells, and of course, were not too sweet.
Royal Earl Grey macaron
These are just two flavours out of their 16. Of which, the flavours that caught our eyes were Pistachio Berry ($4.5), Soya Mochi ($4.5) and Greentea Oreo ($4.5).
For drinks, we tried their signature brews which prove to be innovative twists on coffee. Mr Mint ($7.2) featured fresh mint, lime soda and cold brew, while Zesty Citrus ($7.5) had yuzu, orange, lemon and cold brew.
But if you’re looking for something unsweetened to balance out the desserts, Frontyard’s coffee starts from $4 for a Long Black.
Brunch
Not forgetting the savouries, the Smoked Salmon Open Sandwich ($12.8) was an umami flavour explosion. An indulgent number of pieces of salmon sat atop a piece of sourdough toast with mentaiko mayo spread.
The Beef Bolognese ($10.8) came with a generous amount of spaghetti, although the flavours were quite mediocre and not as commendable as the rest of the dishes.
