Roku Gin is setting up what it’s calling Asia’s smallest tea bar at Guoco Midtown on 14 July, and if the gin is any indication, it will be worth squeezing into.
It’s not just a space to advertise the new bottles. You’ll be able to redeem a complimentary Roku Noryo Melon Fizz, as well as craft your own Roku Noryo Matcha Cocktail after learning traditional matcha whisking techniques.
Both activities are completely free. You just have to register in advance to secure your slots.
Missed the freebies? No worries as you can still try these creations from $6 onwards, while enjoying the DJ sets by DJ Aya and DJ Loyboy.
What’s so special about the Noryo Tea Edition?
The Noryo Tea Edition takes Roku’s original six-botanical formula and puts two of them in the spotlight: Sencha and Gyokuro green tea, both harvested at peak freshness.
Sencha leads on the nose — fresh, grassy, with a clean brightness that signals something genuinely herbal. Meanwhile, Gyokuro follows on the palate with a deeper umami richness that makes this gin taste less like a flavoured spirit and more like a considered seasonal ingredient. The finish is yuzu and sansho spice: sharp, then warm, then gone. Bottled at 43% ABV.
The concept draws from noryo — a Japanese summer tradition of seeking relief from the heat by sitting near water, letting the river breeze cool you down. It’s also tied to the idea of shun: celebrating an ingredient at the exact moment it’s at its best.
Why it’s worth going?
I mean… a free cocktail and a free cocktail masterclass? Why wouldn’t you.
