Singapore Oceanarium at Resorts World Sentosa has unveiled Ocean in Focus: Apex Predators, a brand-new guided experience that offers visitors an exclusive look into the fascinating world of sharks and other ocean predators.
The 60-minute programme explores how these apex predators have evolved over millions of years, the important role they play in maintaining healthy marine ecosystems, and the conservation efforts that help protect them.
One of the highlights of the experience is the rare opportunity to venture behind the scenes into areas typically not accessible to the public. Participants will gain exclusive access to the shark care areas, where they’ll learn how animal care specialists manage and care for these remarkable animals. The tour also includes entry to the Shark Encounter support area, offering first-hand insights into the expertise and dedication involved in the daily care of sharks.
Guests will also witness a live shark feeding session, where specialists demonstrate different feeding techniques such as broadcast feeding and target feeding while explaining the purpose behind each method.
Beyond the feeding session, participants can get up close with real shark specimens, including preserved jaws and teeth, while learning about the unique adaptations that make sharks such effective predators. The experience also showcases the chainmail safety equipment worn by animal care specialists during feeding operations, providing a closer look at the safety measures involved in working with these marine animals.
Each participant will receive a programme lanyard, a shark species identification postcard and an exclusive Dunkleosteus plush keychain to commemorate the experience.
Ocean in Focus: Apex Predators is conducted in English twice daily at 9.30am and 1.30pm, with only the 1.30pm session available on Wednesdays.
Each session is limited to 12 participants to ensure a more intimate and interactive experience.
