Who would’ve thought that one of the best desserts in Singapore would be tucked in a vintage shop?
Located at Haji Lane, a 10-minute walk from Bugis MRT Station, Takara House is a vintage store with a secret cafe tucked away at the back.

Takara House is run by siblings duo Zac and Miki. Zac curates the vintage goods, while Miki runs the bakery, M. Patisserie.
Are the desserts really that good?
What many don’t realise is that the desserts here are allmeticulously crafted by Miki, a Le Cordon Bleu-trained pastry chef.

The Blueberry Manuka Cheese Tart ($15) was surprisingly light and balanced. Manuka honey tend to have a really distinct flavour, but this was nicely incorporated in, imparting a nice floral note to the tart.

Meanwhile, for a more decadent option, you can’t go wrong with the Matcha Pistachio Shortcake ($15). It’s super rich and nutty, though matcha purists would probably want the matcha flavour to be a lot stronger.
All the desserts are made from scratch in Takara House, and the selection rotates daily. Miki shared that her recipe inspirations come from the people aroudn her and her love for exploring different ingredients. But more importantly, she aims to bring out the natural flavours of each ingredient in her recipes!

For drinks, we were surprised to find Thai single origins in addition to the usual Ethiopian and Brazilian. Miki shared that they recently visited Thailand and fell in love with their coffee scene, so why not bring some back for their customers too.
What inspired Takara House?

Prior to Takara House at Haji Lane, Zac’s vintage store was known as Takara Vintage, which operated as a pop-up at various markets. They’ve always wanted to open a physical space, so they thought, why not run it together!
