Torori Tenshi, Japan’s number 1’s warabimochi — so as they claim on their menu — has opened their first Singapore outpost at VivoCity.
The Singapore menu offers the Original Warabimochi, with a tea set add-on available, as well as 14 warabimochi drinks.
Torori Tenshi Singapore review
When a popular brand opens an overseas outpost, the quality of their food tends to face increased scrutiny.
As we have never tried Torori Tenshi no Warabimochi’s outlets in Japan, we can’t say for sure whether the Singapore outlet is up to standard. But, judging it by itself, it was a pretty damn good warabimochi — possibly the softest ones in Singapore. The drinks were great too.
The staff also mentioned that the main ingredients, such as the bracken powder, kinako and milk, are all sourced directly from Japan.
Torori Tenshi Singapore’s warabimochi
You can get the Original Warabimochi ($7.8) and Matcha Warabimochi with Ice Cream ($9.8) a la carte or as a tea pot set with an additional $3.

Compared to the more popular warabimochis in Singapore, the ones here tend to be slightly bigger, and for good reason.
A larger piece of warabimochi creates the impression of a meltier and thicker texture, which is what sets them apart from their competitors. In fact, “torori” translates to thick and viscous in Japanese.

Whether or not you’ll like it or not will depend on what kind of texture you prefer. This was so soft that you can’t even get a nice satisfying pull, compared to the chewier variations from other brands.
Warabimochi drinks
Their warabi drinks are split into four categories: milk, yoghurt, soda and latte.

For a richer and creamier midday treat, opt for the Strawberry Milk ($7.8).
Made in-house with fresh strawberries, the Strawberry Milk was sweet and fresh, albeit slightly too sweet for my liking. If you also prefer your drinks lightly sweetened, perhaps you can request for lesser strawberry syrup when you order.

Meanwhile, the sweetness levels of the Matcha Latte ($7.8) was just right. It’s made with premium matcha from Ito En, a popular tea brand from Japan.

Meanwhile, on a hot and humid day, perhaps the warabi soda would fare better. We got the Mango Soda ($9.8), which had a pleasant tang to it.
It was crisp, refreshing, and who knew a fizzy drink would pair so well with warabimochi?
Parfait at Torori Tenshi no Warabimochi
For the ultimate sweet treat at this new warabimochi cafe at VivoCity, opt for one of their parfaits.

We recommend the Signature Strawberry Parfait ($11.8), which includes one scoop of vanilla and matcha ice cream each, as well as a sweet strawberry jam at the bottom, fresh fruits and sticks of mochis on the side.
This was such an indulgent treat, and we love how there’s a bit of everything included.
