Tag a friend who can indulge in hotpot every single day without getting bored of it. If you are one of those hotpot enthusiasts, Xiabu Xiabu will surely catch your interest with a different concept — solo hotpot for diners! Instead of having a large pot in the middle of the table, diners are now finally able to pick a soup they truly desire. This concept is also perfect for saliva-conscious individuals who prefer to eat from their own pot.

Under the same parent group as hotpot restaurant CouCou, Xiabu Xiabu — a popular hotpot chain with over 1,000 outlets across China — has just opened its first outlet at Lazada One in Singapore.

Duo soup base

Unlike the usual equally divided duo soup base, you’ll get a small portion of default Signature Mushroom Soup together with another soup base of your choice. The Mushroom Soup is cooked with king trumpet mushrooms, white button mushrooms, and blaze mushrooms. Needless to say, it was packed with strong earthy — even slightly meaty — flavours; definitely adored by mushroom lovers like myself.

The Stew Pork Tripe and Chicken Soup was savoury with a hint of pepper. But what was unique about this was the addition of oat milk, which resulted in a creamy and milky concoction with a touch of sweetness.

On the other hand, Golden Sauerkraut, a soup base that we recommend, induced our appetites with its mildy acidic and sour flavour.

Premium ingredients from just $28

Hotpot sets start from $28++ which also include soup base, vegetable platter, condiments, dessert bar, tea (you may top up the difference to upgrade to other drinks).

We had the Premium Seafood and Beef Set with a few other ala-carte items. We tried a few types of beef such as USDA choice short plate, USDA choice beef flat iron and USDA choice ribeye. The beef were all thinly sliced and had good quality in terms of taste and texture. If you prefer more fatty portions, the short plate and ribeye will be a better choice.

On the other hand, the seafood set was not as impressive. The prawns were a little mushy, but it was compensated by the sliced fish, which was relatively fresher than other restaurants of the same price point.

Meanwhile, The vegetables platter was a delight due to the wide variety of greens and mushrooms provided.

The condiments were also complimentary unlike some other big brands in the market, and that was a nice touch. Their signature peach vinegar goes pretty well with fatty meats due to its mildly acidic and sharp taste, with a subtle sweetness.

You can also choose your own noodles such as Udon, Spinach Noodles, Carrot Noodles, and more.

Bubble tea from Tea Mi Tea

I love how they serve bubble tea instead of the usual soft drinks that many places offer. The options were huge since you are really ordering from a legit bubble tea store — Tea Mi Tea. Enjoy popular flavours such as Da Hong Pao Bubble Tea, Pu Er with Oat Milk or Wintermelon Tea with Da Hong Pao.

End your hotpot delight with a shaved ice dessert where you can customise your own creation at the dessert bar with various jelly flavours and sauces such as cucumber jelly, watermelon jelly, yam paste, peanuts, brown sugar syrup, etc.
