Looking to enjoy a cup of tea or a glass of cocktail with your best friend (I’m referring to your dog).

Head down to A Beautiful Day Cafe Tearoom, a new pet-friendly and Parisian-themed cafe at PLQ Residences.

The entire cafe is decked in a Parisian decors

If this cafe sounds familiar to you, it’s because it was initially known as A Beautiful Day. But the concept of both cafes are completely different. Located at Changi City Point, the cafe was decorated in multiple themes: floral, jungle, and pink. The menu also focused on Asian-fusion.

Speciality tea and coffee

The entire menu was revamped. For starters, the new cafe at Paya Lebar introduced a line-up of speciality tea.

Regular hot tea costs $12.9, including leaves like Golden Peony, Yellow Rose and Ripen Pure, which is a post fermented tea. The owner recommended Lapsang Souchong, also known as zheng zhong xiao zhong in Chinese, for its innate smokiness. He likened it to a whiskey without the alcohol.

The whiskey glass has enough tea to fill up three of those glasses

While it was served in a liquor bottle, it really just tasted like regular black tea. Of course, this is coming from someone who isn’t an avid tea drinker. But, I have to admit that the presentation was stunning. I haven’t seen any other cafes or tea rooms serving tea in this fashion.

Meanwhile, there was also a Wu Yi Da Hong Pro Latte ($5.9 for hot, $6.9 for iced), for those who wish to drink bubble tea in a cafe setting.

For tea that’s sweeter and fruitier, we recommend their fruit base tea series, which includes Strawberry Tea ($9.9), Guava Apple Oolong Tea ($9.9), and more.

Coffee beans are roasted from Tiong Hoe Speciality Coffee. While that was appealing, something else caught our eyes.

Their CoffTEA serie is a mixture of coffee and tea (for those who can’t decide between the age-old question). The Nutty CoffTEA ($5.9 for hot, $6.9 for cold) had a stronger tea fragrance compared to coffee.

Western mains

Kudos to A Beautiful Day Cafe Tearoom for attempting to modernise their menu with croffles and Impossible™ meat.

A dish that has both is their Impossible Shakshuka Egg ($25.9). It very different from typical shakshuka. The sauce looked and tasted like it was predominantly ketchup, and it was devoid of fresh vegetables such as onions and bell peppers.

The Mac & Cheese ($20.9) was served with a couple of picnic ham slices. The menu only stated Mozzarella cheese, but there was a light smokey taste to it.

No doubt, the cafe was extremely Instagrammable. It was great that dogs were allowed indoors too, considering most pet-friendly cafes in Singapore only offer alfresco dining. I visited during their soft launch period, so I can’t wait to see how the dishes will improve in the future. That being said, I would probably come back in the afternoon to try their other teas, or perhaps at night for one of their cocktails.

During their soft launch, all customers have to make a reservation via WhatsApp (+65 9855 2826).
