All Hands Cafe review – Shokupan cafe at Telok Ayer

Shokupan cafes aren’t exactly new in Singapore, but we gotta say — this place does it well

All Hands Cafe is the newest cafe in Telok Ayer, and they’re coming in strong with their shokupan menu.

Upcoming Grand Opening promo

To commemorate their grand opening, All Hands Cafe is offering one of the following shokupans for dine-in customers: Egg Mayo with Garlic Shrimps, and Smashed Avo with Smoked Salmon.

How was the Shokupan?

Cutting to the chase — All Hands Cafe’s shokupan was done right. Soft, fluffy, with a nice little crisp on the edges.

Kaya and Shaved Butter Shokupan

We tried it in two forms: topped with Kaya and Shaved Butter, and Creamy Chocolate Cream with Milo — both at $8.94, and served with two sous vide egg..

Creamy Chocolate Milo Cream Shokupan

Both had a punchy flavour — we were especially surprised by how fragrant the kaya was — but they were not too sweet.

For those who prefer their brunch savoury, you can also DIY your own shokupan from $8.94.

The base comprises: Scramble Eggs, Sunny Up, Egg Mayo, Mashed Avo, and Cheesy Tomatoes.

Scrambled Egg with Crispy Spam on Shokupan

Meanwhile, the available toppings are Crispy Spam ($5), Parma Ham ($6), Smoked Salmon ($6), Candied Bacon ($4), Sous Vide Chicken ($5), Sous Vide Egg ($4), Hot Honey Pepperoni ($4), Mixed Fruits Salad ($3), Garlic Shrimp ($6), and Sauteed Mushrooms ($4).

What if I hate bread…

Don’t worry. All Hands Cafe also offers mains such as pastas, proteins and desserts.

Yolk Situation

The Yolk Situation ($19.49) is essentially a carbonara with crispy pork belly. You can’t go wrong with this.

Laksa Barramundi

But if you’d like something different, the Laksa Barramundi ($23.49) is a must-get. The flavour-packed pasta sauce is one thing, but the fish, which was likely wet-brined prior to cooking, was properly marinated thoroughly, and was cooked to perfection. The skin was left crispy, while the body was tender and flakey.

How were the desserts!

Frankly, a little pricey for the size.

Matcha Banana Pudding

Their Matcha Banana Pudding ($6.49) was just that. Flavours were alright, though I’d have preferred a punchier, more astringent matcha to counter the creaminess of the pudding.

Similarly, their Brulee Basque Cheesecake ($6.49) had a nice flavour, but the portion was kinda small for the price.
