Myeong in Jib review – Fresh raw marinated crabs & sotbap

Bank vault in a restaurant (Myeong in Jib)

Don’t be confused when you see a bank vault at this new Korean restaurant between Clarke Quay and Chinatown.

Myeong in Jib, opened by a true blue ajumma, serves authentic Korean dishes like raw marinated crabs and sotbap.

One of the freshest raw marinated crabs in Singapore

Raw marinated crabs has been increasingly popular and accessible in Singapore. But if you’ve tried proper ones in Korea before, you’d know that most options here are overly salty and overpowering.

Soy Raw Marinated Crabs in Singapore
Soy Sauce Marinated Crabs ($68)

The crabs at Myeong in Jib actually tasted fresh, with a good balance of umami from the soy marinate and briney flavours of the crab.

You can get them a la carte, at $68 for the Soy Sauce Marinated Crab and $60 for the Spicy Marinated Crab.

Personally, I loved the fresh flavours of the crabs. But if you can’t stomach raw food, the more intense flavours of the Spicy Marinated Crab masks that briney flavours.

If you’d like to leave room in your stomach to try their other dishes, you can also get the combo sets, with sotbaps and pan-fried delicacies.

Sotbap at Myeong in Jib

What is sotbap? Sotbap is a traditional way of cooking rice in Korea, often in an earthenware pot and topped with root vegetables. “Sot” refers to pot, while “bap” refers to rice.

Spicy Cheesy Chicken Sot Bap
Spicy Chicken Cheese Sot Bob ($22)

We tried the Spicy Chicken Cheese Sot Bob ($22), which was topped with stir-fried chicken and a spicy sauce cheese. It’s so flavourful and so cheesy, you really can’t go wrong with this combination.

Other dishes at Myeong in Jib

For the protein kings, opt for the BBQ Set ($98). It includes pork ribs, whole pork shoulder, sliced pork belly or beef brisket, seafood hotpot and udon noodles.

Beef and pork KBBQ Set
Grilled Beef + Pork (2-3pax) ($94)

The beef had such an intense beefy flavour, while the pork was decent.
