Edible tree & ladybugs? Check out Sofitel’s new afternoon tea set

Every hotel in Singapore has their own high tea set, but here’s one that really steals the spotlight.

Enter an enchanting realm with Sofitel Singapore City Centre’s latest afternoon tea set at 1864 — a mystical forest set-up where almost everything is edible, including the tree leaves, pebbles, soil, and ladybugs.

Available from now till 31 October 2024, A Midsummer Night’s Dream Afternoon Tea is inspired by William Shakespeare’s play with the same name. The timeless comedy, with five subplots, takes place in a mystical Athenian forest.

A Midsummer Night’s Dream Afternoon Tea review

At $138 per set, which serves two persons, we find that Sofitel’s Midsummer Night’s Dream Afternoon Tea set is definitely worth the price. Not only is it a good price ($69 per person), it’s undeniably one of the most Instagrammable high tea set in Singapore at the moment. The food was great as well.

This set is also limited to five sets a day, so we highly recommend making a reservation in advance.

Gimmicky, or actually tasty?

If you’re wondering if the flora and fauna taste as good as it looks, the answer is — yes!

To keep a sense of mystery, we won’t be revealing which element of the forest is what dish, but here’s what the high tea set includes:

  • Savouries
    • Spice & Sea for Oberson
    • An Enchanted Ruby on Moss Rock
    • Comte Bark Chips with Fairy Dust
    • Puck’s Playful Tartlet
    • Mischief Spice Toast
  • Sweets
    • The Magical Toadstool
    • Spellbound Pebbles
    • Midnight Monarch in Love
    • Enchanted Fudge Log
    • Dreamy Sycamore
    • Orb of Dew
    • Mystical Tree Moss
    • Night’s Bite

The high tea set includes one mocktail and one coffee/tea per person. For an afternoon tea set, the choices for coffee and tea menu is one of the most extensive ones I’ve ever seen, with special flavours like Creme Brulee Coconut Latte and Iced Gula Melaka Latte.

Which items were our favourites?

As unbelievable as it sounds, almost everything on the display is edible, except the tree structure, which was sprayed with food-grade material.

Yes, the ladybugs, butterflies, pebbles, leaves and even the soil is edible.

But the dishes that stood out include the Comté Bark Chips with Fairy Dust. The cheese was very fluffy as it was nicely grated into thin pieces, which resembled the fairy dust.

The Mischief Spiced Toast had a nice kick from the wasabi mousse, while the Spellbound Pebbles had a nice rich chocolate flavour.
