Heard Tolido’s Espresso Nook has the best rosti in Singapore, so we’re here to review it brutally.
It all started when a mother began preparing intricate breakfasts for her son every morning. While porridge and sunny side ups are just as heartwarming, there is nothing more exciting for a child than waking up to a table worth of Melbourne-inspired dishes.
Famed for their rosti and bacon french toast, Tolido’s Espresso Nook is an all-day breakfast cafe at Bugis.
Our honest review of Tolido’s Espresso Nook
Some of you might find the name familiar. Before settling down at Crawlord Lane, they operated as a food stall at Science Centre. The mother would prepare simple snacks such as hotdogs, while the son played around with the espresso machine. When they had to give up their space, the mother and son duo decided to go big, or go home.
Tolido’s Espresso Nook transformed into a full-fledged brunch cafe at Bugis, serving dishes that the mother used to prepare for her son.
Best rostis in Singapore?

The best rosti in Singapore, Tolido’s rendition has thin crisp on the outside, complemented with a fluffy and moist interior. The Rosti with Cheesy Sausage ($20) is made fresh to order; not just fresh on the grill though. Every rosti is freshly-grated upon order, resulting in the perfect texture. Hence, expect a slightly longer waiting time, roughly 20 minutes on the weekend.
You can also get a slightly different variation of the rosti — Rosti with Smoked Bratwurst ($22).
Another crowd favourite at Tolido’s cafe is the Stout Glaze Bacon French Toast ($19). This sinful brunch dish is topped with mascarpone and Guinness stout-glazed bacon with maple syrup.
Tolido’s Espresso Nook’s menu has also expanded into mains over the years, with simple, yet satisfying dishes such as the Prawn Laksa Pasta ($20) and Vongole ($19).
Coffee at Tolido’s Espresso Nook
Perhaps outshone by their rostis, but did you know that Tolido’s Espresso Nook has pretty good coffee too?
Their signature house blend features a mix of coffee beans from Brazil, Ethiopia and Papa New Guinea. They roast it themselves to ensure every cup of coffee served to their customers is up to standards. However, instead of the standard espresso-based coffee, which starts from $4, you can also enjoy more experimental concoctions like the Dirty Sea Salt Spiced Chai Latte ($8) and Pumpkin Spice Latte ($6.5).
Our verdict?
So what’s our review of Tolido’s Espresso Nook?
Definitely a great brunch cafe — one of the best in Bugis — but we would recommend coming on a weekday to avoid the crowd!
Melbourne Brunch Festival 2022 (no longer relevant)

From 11 to 31 July 2022, Tolido’s Espresso Nook participated in the Melbourne Brunch Festival. Organised by Global Victoria and Agriculture Victoria, the Melbourne Brunch Festival in Singapore features the premium food and beverage across Victoria, such as berries, wagyu, and dairy; all of which form the backbone of quintessential Melbourne-style brunch.
Part of the festival, their new time-sensitive menu includes Strawberry Fields French Toast ($19), Brunch BAE ($19) and Cafe Con Miel ($7.5).
The strawberry french toast takes a page from its savoury counterpart. Thick fluffy brioche, topped with strawberries from Victoria and Montefiore Mascarpone Cheese. A house-made crumble with a savoury note balances out the decadence of the dish.

But what’s an Australian menu without the inclusion of vegemite?
Brunch BAE is an avocado toast elevated with the umami, bitter spread. The flavour bomb is a popular breakfast spread in Australia that is made from brewers’ yeast extract.
Lastly, the Cafe con Miel, which is traditionally a Spanish coffee recipe, is prepared with Victorian honey.
