Christina’s Singapore Duxton, located on the first floor of Mondrian Hotel, has been around for awhile. But, they’ve recently brought in their new Head Chef Federico Scordo, who injects innovative twists on classic Mediterranean food, inspired by his personal experiences from all around the world.

Food at Christina’s

Personally, I was a huge fan of their Pizza Fritta ($26). It’s essentially fried pizza. The pizza dough is coated in panko, and fried till light and crispy. It sounds a bit much, but trust me, the dough was surprisingly light on the palate; not greasy at all.
It was crispy, airy, and paired well with the stracciatella and mortadella. Would’ve loved it even more if there was an unhealthy portion of cheese given instead.

Next, surprisingly, the Croquetas with Spicy Jam ($16) was our favourite.
The chefs at Christina’s must have really nailed their frying technique, because just like the previous dish, this was fried to perfection.Light, airy crisp, with a creamy cheesy filling. The spicy jam didn’t really come through, but I didn’t think it affected the dish that much.
Now for mains, look forward to an array of pastas and seafood.

The Polpo Materca ($32) is perfect for those who prefer super tender octopus. This was cooked twice, and laid atop a bed of hummus.
It tasted great. Nothing revolutionary; just a perfectly executed dish with familiar flavours. But I did find the portion too small for the price.
The dessert to try

The Pistachio Tiramisu ($16) was perfect, and here’s why.
The base was moist and creamy. Not sure if rum was in the recipe, or if it was just overpowered by the espresso, but I did really enjoy the punchy coffee notes in Christina’s take. It tasted great on its own, but paired even better with the nutty and sweet pistachio paste on top.
What’s great about this is that if you’re sharing this with someone who doesn’t like pistachios, they can just swipe the top off and enjoy it as a regular tiramisu!

The ChocoBanana ($16) is a sinful way to finish the meal. It’s cold, creamy and decadent. Officially called a “Semifreddo”, it’s a traditional Italian dessert that has the in-between texture of a panna cotta and ice cream.
I think the texture was on point — almost like a lighter fudge. And as the name suggests, this was a classic pairing of chocolate and banana. Can’t really go wrong with this.
