Nibbies review – Shophouse cafe with DIY crafts at Telok Ayer

Girl sitting at the balcony of a shophouse cafe — Nibbies Singapore

Not the British Book Awards, but the new shophouse cafe in Singapore.

Nibbies is a shophouse cafe at Telok Ayer with Japandi influences, serving a small selection of coffee, matcha, and sandos.

The highlight though, is the craft corner at Nibbies, where you get to DIY your very own puppy plushie and create a “Shaker Shaker” display case.

Our honest review of Nibbies Cafe

Nibbies is hands down one of the most aesthetic cafes in Singapore. Every spot was so Instagrammable and I loved the overall vibes of the place. The food and drinks could be better, but was decent for the price and ambience. But, the DIY crafts were quite worth their prices.

Food and drinks review at Nibbies

Drinks at Nibbies

Coffee

The coffee menu at Nibbies is simple: Espresso ($4), Black ($5), and White ($6), with an additional 50 cents for iced drinks.

You can also opt for their Filter Coffee — seasonal beans as of October 2024 is a single origin from Yunnan, China — at $7.

If you’re feeling adventurous, you an opt for their specials, such as the Yugen Sparkling ($8), which is a refreshing yuzu espresso tonic, or the Daidai Fizz ($8), a shot of espresso stirred into natural orange juice.

Matcha

The matcha menu is a lot more interesting, with options like Matcha Pistachio ($7), Matcha KurKuru ($8), and Ube Matcha ($8).

This is one of the few — or the only cafe in Singapore — that serves Matcha Pistachio on their menu. A spoonful of pistachio butter is gently whisked into the matcha solution, resulting in a sweet, nutty and grassy flavour.

Definitely one of the more interesting matcha drinks I’ve tried. I really enjoyed it, but admittedly, the flavours of the matcha could be more prominent.

Iced Ube Matcha Latte at Nibbies
Iced Ube Matcha Latte ($8.5)

The Ube Matcha is ideal for those who prefer an unsweetened matcha latte. Made with sweet potato powder, it offers a lighter flavor that pairs perfectly with the earthiness of matcha. The natural sweetness of the sweet potato subtly enhances the overall taste of the drink.

I also enjoyed this, but this is coming from someone who doesn’t enjoy a thick and sweet drink. If you’re expecting a punchier ube flavour, such as the variation from 9Toast, you might prefer the Matcha Pistachio.

Food at Nibbies

If you’re planning to grab a light bite at Nibbies, you can choose from their sandos, seasonal bakes and cakes, sharing sides, and even oats and parfaits.

All their sandos are made with a fluffy shokupan, which is a Japanese milk bread. You can enjoy a shokupan for just $4, topped with butter and sweet red bean paste.

We tried the Gyukatsu ($18) and Shibuya ($12).

Gyukatsu Sando — Wagyu beef patty sandwich
Gyukatsu Sando ($18)

The Gyukatsu had a nice flavour — beefy, not overly saucy — but the patty could’ve been more tender.

Meanwhile, the Shibuya ($12) was a nice sweet treat to share. It’s glazed with honey and topped with the juiciest blueberries.

Tater Tots with Mentaiko and Tobiko

For sides, we shared the Tater Tots ($10) with an added-on Mentaiko and Tobiko Sauce ($3). As seen from the photo, this was such an indulgent treat; so much tobiko was piled on the tots for just $3.

DIY crafts at Nibbies

Design your Shaker Shaker display case

If you love cartoons, you’re going to love this DIY craft, where you get to customise your transparent acrylic case with as many cartoon characters and adorable charms as the case can fit.

A Shaker Shaker charm is essentially a 3D — about 3mm thick — acrylic design.
