Clinton Street Baking Review - Pancakes with Warm Maple Butter and Blueberry Compote

The best blueberry pancakes, hearty breakfasts and mouth-watering biscuits. Hailing all the way from the Big Apple, we’re finally able to get a taste of New York’s brunch affair.

Ladies and gentlemen, we present to you- Clinton Street Baking Company & Restaurant.

The best pancakes in Singapore?

Voted the best blueberry pancakes in the city twice by New York Magazine, there was no way we were missing out on this. A stack of three fluffy American pancakes (really one of the fluffiest we’ve had in Singapore), topped with a blueberry compote with a side of warm maple butter.

This is listed as Pancakes with Warm Maple Butter ($22) with a choice of blueberries, banana walnut or chocolate chunks.

I mean, the texture and flavour of the pancakes were textbook. But what elevated the blueberries variation might be the juxtaposition of the decadent maple butter and the tart blueberry compote that had a lemony, zesty undertone.

For balance, we ordered the Chicken & Waffles ($23.1). The waffle batter tasted very similar to the pancakes, and I’m not surprised if they used the same batter for both. Not an issue, except, it kinda became too decadent towards the end of the meal because of the similar taste.

That aside, the waffles had a soft texture, instead of the airy variation at The Forage Cafe. The fried chicken had a thin layer of crispiness and is also paired with maple butter on the side.

Not bad, but I personally prefer The Forage Cafe’s variation and Earlybird Cafe’s Chicken & Pancakes

We also got the Buttermilk Onion Rings ($7) which had a light, flaky batter. It was gently salted and had a nice balance with the natural sweetness of the onions.

This has been on Chope for the longest time, with a $5 off an all-day $50 voucher. Not the biggest steal, but if you don’t mind takeaways, they’re currently having a 30% off their $50 and $100 cash vouchers for takeaway only.
