Can a top pizzeria run a successful cafe?
#28 in Asia’s Top 50 Best Pizza, Fortuna Italian Trattoria, has just opened their new cafe concept down the road — literally.
Located along Craig Road, near Tanjong Pagar MRT Station, Foruna Terrazza takes inspiration from Italy’s Amalfi Coast. Think artisanal drinks, fresh desserts, and Italian coastal classics. — pastas, pizzas, and wines.
First impression: we love the bold yellow. The vibrant interior instantly lifted our mood and sparked our appetite even before we sat down.
If you’ve been to their pizza counterpart, you’ll be happy to know that their signature chilli oil is also served here. A whole jar just for your table, and it really does go well with anything, because it’s more aromatic than it is spicy.
The best grilled cheese in Singapore?
Fortuna Terrazza Cafe serves classic brunch dishes with a little twist on it. For example, their grilled cheese is elevated with not two, not three, but six types of cheese — with a touch of honey. Drizzle in a bit of their housemade chilli oil, and it’s basically Vietnam’s Pizza 4Ps on crack.
Their #6 Cheese Toastie ($24) tastes different on every bite. On the first, we got the nuttiness and sweetness from the parmigiano and honey, before it transitioned into a deep, savoury valley that the gorgonzola brought.
The most unique part about this grilled cheese is no doubt the addition of lemon ricotta, which really brightens up the whole dish.
Next, to beat a hot day, we recommend the Amalfi Ravioli ($29) — your classic ricotta filling, served in a bed of refreshing limoncello sauce.
For extra protein, get their IFC 28 ($25). Amazing bun, one of the best flavours I’ve had in a fried chicken. While the batter was crispy, it could’ve definitely been airier. The one we was a little too hard, which takes the focus away from the tenderness of the chicken.
