My dog just turned five this year, and instead of throwing him a birthday party, I decided to give him something a little more unique, a birthday staycation! So we went to Hotel Indigo Singapore Katong, a pet-friendly hotel right in the heart of the Katong.

First Impressions
From the moment we stepped into the hotel, I could tell this wasn’t just another cookie-cutter stay. Every corner was bursting with Peranakan-inspired details. The lobby was lined with intricate artwork and ornaments, while our room had vibrant wall art, colorful tiles in the bathroom, and even quirky little touches like a vintage tub with a “Good Morning” towel for soaking your feet. The sink area was designed to look like a traditional sewing machine, the cups were old-school style, and to top it all off, we even had a carrom game table in the room!

There’s also a fun local touch at the lobby where you can grab free gem biscuits (the nostalgic kind from childhood) or play a quick round of five stones in which I terribly lost to my partner.
Thoughtful Pet Amenities
But of course, the real VIP was my dog, and the hotel made sure he felt just as spoiled as I did. Waiting for him was a large plush bed, food and water bowls, a cordless water fountain (which my dog was suspicious of at first but quickly got used to it), and even an air purifier from Aclium. The welcome gift box was packed with essentials like pee pads, wipes, poop bags, loads of treats, and even a Fuzzyard toy that quickly became his new favourite.

It was such a relief not to have to pack too many doggy supplies since the hotel had us covered.
Spacious & Stylish Rooms
The room itself was spacious and colorful, with enough space for a king-sized bed, sofa, table, and separate areas for the toilet and shower. I loved how photogenic everything was, including the bathroom. You can sit on the colourful rattan chair and soak your feet with the bath salts provided.

Dining & Drinks
While dogs aren’t allowed at the rooftop pool, you can still hang out at Rooftop 88’s outdoor bar with your pet while enjoying local-inspired cocktails. I tried the Sapphire Rendezvous (inspired by gemstones in Peranakan jewelry), but they also have fun creations like the Merlion Brando and Nyonya Margarita.

For food, you don’t even need to leave the hotel. Baba Chews serves up modern Asian fusion dishes inspired by Peranakan heritage, and they’re seriously good. The Kueh Pie Tee was crisp and addictive, and the Beef Rendang was melt-in-your-mouth tender. If you prefer, there are plenty of dog-friendly cafés and eateries around Katong as well.

Breakfast with your dog
The next morning, we enjoyed a hearty breakfast. Pets are welcome at the Hotel Indigo Garden (outdoor area of Baba Chews), but since it was raining, we had ours at the Pavilion instead. I loved that they served proper lattes instead of those automatic coffee machine ones, and the Smoked Salmon Brioche was so fluffy and buttery it deserved its own shoutout. Before leaving, we popped by the Mama Stall, the hotel’s in-house gift shop at the Pavilion, where you can pick up quirky Peranakan souvenirs, dog outfits, skincare, and even admire rotating art pieces by local artists. The exhibits change every two months, so you always get something fresh and new to admire.
Explore Katong With Your Pup
If you’re in the mood to explore, Katong is a vibrant neighborhood filled with heritage shophouses, Peranakan culture, and great eats. You can check out Kim Choo Kueh Chang for traditional rice dumplings, Rumah Bebe for Peranakan crafts and plenty of local street food stalls along the way.
