We recently stayed at Mama Shelter Singapore, the newly launched French-inspired hotel in Singapore, and honestly, this might be one of the quirkiest and most visually fun hotel stays we’ve had in a while.

From the moment we stepped into the lobby, we could already tell this wasn’t going to be your usual hotel experience. The entire space is filled with vibrant, eclectic and bold designs, from the hotel exterior and lobby to the lifts and even the rooms themselves. If you enjoy taking photos during your stay, there are honestly so many cute mirror selfie spots around the hotel.
Unique brand concept
One thing we found really adorable was how committed they were to the whole “Mama” concept. You’ll spot phrases like “Mama Loves You” all around the hotel, and even the toiletries box had little messages like “Mama got you covered”, which made the experience feel playful and thoughtful at the same time.

We stayed in the Mama Room, which is their most basic room category at 17sqm. While the room itself wasn’t huge, it still felt really cosy and comfortable, probably because of the warm lighting and stylish decor. There were also a few thoughtful touches we genuinely appreciated during the stay.
Thoughtful amenities
First of all, they provide a Dyson hairdryer, and honestly, the girls will understand why this matters so much. The blackout blinds were also amazing and blocked out sunlight completely, which made sleeping in incredibly comfortable. Another unexpected feature was the automated toilet that opens automatically and comes with several built-in functions, which definitely made the stay feel more premium.
One small downside for us was that the hotel only provides a combined 2-in-1 shampoo and body wash instead of separate products, which personally wasn’t our preference.
We also had a very unexpected but hilarious moment when we discovered Bugs Bunny masks hanging on the bedside lamps. It completely caught us off guard, but it honestly added to the quirky personality of the hotel and made the stay even more memorable.
Mama Restaurant
Even if you’re not planning to stay here, we highly recommend visiting the hotel’s restaurant. In fact, the restaurant was already fully booked during dinner hours when we visited. Hotel guests also get 20% off a la carte items (excluding seasonal specials and promotional items), which is a pretty good perk.

The food was genuinely impressive, but what stood out even more was the atmosphere. There’s live music after 8.30pm, and the whole space feels lively without being overwhelming. If you’re not sure what to order, we highly recommend trying Mama’s Happy Meal. For just $39.90, you get two burgers of your choice (beef, fish, or mushroom), free-flow fries, two drinks including alcoholic options, and even a tin of caviar. The burgers are slightly smaller in size though, so bigger eaters may still want to order additional dishes.

Some other dishes we really enjoyed were the Nasi Lemak Arancini from the restaurant, as well as the Tuna Tartare and Fish Croquettes from the rooftop bar.
The hotel also has a swimming pool that looked like a really nice chill spot, although we didn’t manage to use it much because it rained during our stay. Just take note that there isn’t a gym in the hotel.
Breakfast was included in our stay and served via an a la carte menu instead of a buffet format. While the variety wasn’t extensive, there were still enough options for us, and the food overall was pretty good. That said, we did feel that the service could still be improved slightly, as there were a few hiccups with serving speed and order accuracy during breakfast hours.

The average price for a Mama Room with breakfast is around $200+ per night, depending on the dates. Considering the location, themed concept and overall experience, we honestly think it’s pretty worth it for a unique stay around Orchard.
Another huge plus is the location. Somerset MRT Station is only about a 4-minute walk away, and you’ll also be close to plenty of shopping malls and cafes in town.
If you’re looking for a staycation that feels a little more fun and different from the usual standard hotel experience, Mama Shelter Singapore is definitely worth checking out.
