Good Egg? That’s exactly what this Tanjong Pagar cafe is like.
Good egg is a British slang for a nice guy, usually referring to a neighbour. This is exactly what this newly-opened cafe in Tanjong Pagar aims to be — a good neighbour for its fellow corporate girlies in the area.
If you’re in need for a morning coffee or a satisfying brunch, drop by for treat. Here’s our review of Good Egg cafe.
Good Egg by Bearded Bella review
Good Egg’s menu comprises coffee, brunch and pastries.
Let’s talk coffee. Founded by the same team behind Bearded Bella, a popular brunch cafe along Craig Road who is known for their award-winning coffee, you know you’re in for a treat.
While there is a smaller selection of house blends and single origin here, Good Egg compensates with their exclusive cold brew series, including interesting variations such as Lavender and Hibiscus.
For a more traditional cuppa joe, a Black or White starts from $5.5.

Currently on rotation, their seasonal house blend features a mix of Brazil and Mexico, promising a creamy and chocolate-y profile. Meanwhile, their single origin is from Guatemala. The Finca La Platanillo is known for its syrupy notes of honeydew, vanilla and chamomile tea.
I tried their single origin as a Cortado. It was quite creamy and it did have a touch of an earthy floral aftertaste.
Solid brunch dishes at Good Egg
Good Egg might look like a hole-in-the-wall coffee house, but don’t underestimate their mains. Although it comes in a slightly unaesthetic takeaway box, intentionally done so for convenience, the food was solid.
Starting our Good Egg review with their Cheesy Black Garlic Goodness ($19). It’s almost a classic cheeseburger, with similar flavours and textures, but it’s elevated with a doughnut burger bun and topped with crispy onions.

A TikTok chef once said that they key to good food is balancing unfamiliar ingredients with familiar flavours, and this burger abode by this rule perfectly. It was a 10/10 for me.
For a lighter meal, the Scallops & Cold Pasta ($20) might be more appropriate.
The light coating of truffle oil imparted a nice aroma and it was not too oily. But what I appreciate most about the pasta is how flavourful it was. Most cold pasta tend to be a bit bland since it’s harder to “cook” the flavours into the noodles. But this had an intense tangy flavour, credits to the addition of yuzu ponzu in this dish.

The last dish we tried was Our Something Sweet Salad ($16) salad. Appropriately named, this salad had a unique fruity profile. In addition to the strawberries, the salad is coated in a tangy and sweet orange balsamic dressing. The acidity and spice from the raw onions and peppers was also a genius addition to curb the overall sweetness of the dish.
I’m not a salad person, but this is a salad I’d come back for. But personally, I would appreciate a larger portion of feta.

Our verdict
Good Egg by Bearded Bella is a pretty good cafe. While the takeaway boxes might be deterring to those who prefer their dishes aesthetically plated, the food and coffee themselves are up to standard. If you’re working nearby and planning to treat yourself to a good lunch, this is it.
